About 80% of Women Will Have Fibroids

Most Don’t Know About It

Black Women are 2-3x More Likely to Get Fibroids Than White Women

What Are Fibroids?

Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors also called leiomyomas, or simply myomas.

They grow in one of the three muscular layers of the uterus.

  • Outer layer pushing out of the uterus (subserosal) 55%
  • Middle layer (intramural) 40%
  • Inner layer pushing into the uterine cavity (submucoal) 5%

They are most common among women 30-50 years old because they are thought to be caused by estrogen:progesterone imbalance.

What Are the Symptoms of Fibroids?

Fibroids cause different symptoms dependent where they are in the uterus.

Only about 25% of women with fibroids have symptoms.

  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Bleeding more than 5 days
  • Pelvic pressure or pain
  • Difficulty fully emptying bladder
  • Frequent peeing small amounts
  • Constipation
  • Back or leg pains
  • Enlargement of the lower belly
  • Pain with sex
  • Difficulty getting pregnancy (with submucosal fibroids and intramural fibroids)
  • Increased miscarriage and preterm births (with submucosal fibroids)

Fibroids May Be the Only Cause of Infertility in 2-3% of Infertile Women

What Causes Fibroids?

The cause of fibroids is not fully understood.

There is thought to be a genetic component in which uterine cells are primed early in life via a genetic mutation.

Fibroids are also considered to be an estrogen dominant type of tumor. Suggesting either excess estrogen or insufficient progesterone.

How Are Fibroids Diagnosed?

Fibroids are diagnosed by pelvic ultrasound.

Fibroids Account for 33% of Hysterectomies

Can Natural Medicine Help With Fibroids?

Natural medicine does not have good tools for shrinking fibroids if they are large and causing bad symptoms.

Our approach is to try to slow fibroid growth by balancing the estrogen:progesterone ratio, and helping the body detox from estrogens.

There is also a big component of angiogenesis in fibroids (like in endometriosis and cancer).

We use herbs like those found in Turska’s Formula to limit the growth of these vascular networks that support tumor development.

Because fibroids are part of an inflammatory process, commonly women will have adhesions and restrictions of the uterus/bladder/rectum.

I can support you before or after a surgery for fibroids with manual therapy and other forms of natural treatment.
