A car crash is a sudden life change.
Now we are aware that most people not only injure their muscles, joints, and nerves, but also have traumatic brain injuries that can influence the immune system and even digestion.
We are not designed to travel in a metal object at a high velocity then stop suddenly. The body generally heals much more quickly from a slip and fall injury than from a car injury. Dr. Caroline Peterson will evaluate you with neurologic and orthopedic tests, and with imaging if appropriate. Her gentle treatments will focus on helping the body to reintegrate and remember what it needs to do to heal.
Traumatic Brain Injury
If you were in a car crash and immediately felt dizzy, nauseous, ringing in the ears, confusion, or other symptoms – you had a concussion. A grade one and two concussion does not involve losing consciousness. Grade one concussion has symptoms that last fewer than 15 minutes. The good news is that whether the concussion is a brain bruise or sheering of axons, most will resolve on their own in one month. Dr. Caroline Peterson will do additional testing and treatment if your traumatic brain injury symptoms persist.
Reclaiming your lifestyle and participating in rehab are important parts of healing. After an injury it is hard to know how much is too much work, play, and exercise. This is a normal part of the healing process. Dr. Caroline Peterson will help you return to work as soon as possible and support you in modified activities if necessary. She will also prescribe and teach you exercises that will help your brain and body to heal so you can be strong again.
Many patients experience emotional trauma with a car accident. This can lead to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Often the accident is not their fault, and it can be scary getting back on the road with drivers who are unpredictable. Neuroemotional technique (NET) helps patients to understand and release the underlying fears that impede them from driving calmly and confidently again.
